Rag Rug Making Workshop
Discover the traditional craft of rag rug making in this hands-on workshop! Perfect for beginners, this course will introduce you to the timeless techniques of hooking, prodding, and weaving to transform recycled fabric into beautiful, textured rugs, cushions, or wall hangings.
With guidance from Iona, you’ll learn how to repurpose old textiles into unique, handcrafted pieces full of colour and character. All materials are provided, but you’re welcome to bring any cherished fabrics you'd like to incorporate.
Join us for a creative and sustainable crafting day, and take home a project that blends history, artistry, and personal storytelling!
Your tutor is going to be Iona, who is a qualified and experienced fashion designer from Manchester who has been making clothes for herself and others for over 40 years. Taught to knit by her Gran at an early age, she has enjoyed being able to create unique one- off pieces
Iona has a keen interest in what is being described as slow fashion, helping people learn the skills that will enable them to make pieces that they will want to wear and wear again for years to come, either from locally sourced materials or by upcycling garments / bedding.
