Natural Dyes and Textiles

We use our own home grown and locally foraged plants in a few creative processes with textiles. Batik, Shibori, Natural Dyeing and Botanical Printing.

When making designs on fabrics using Batik, we source local beeswax and organic or re purposed 100% cotton or ‘Peace’ silk together with natural indigo which we are growing in a polytunnel. Peace silk is cruelty free in that the silk moth is allowed to nibble its hole out of the cocoon and to live on and free after creating it’s beautiful fibre for our use.

You could come to learn all about natural dyeing, the different methods involved such as mordanting, the growing and processing of the plant materials and adjusting the colour after dyeing.

Saturday courses are run throughout the year, however, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to tailor a course to your needs.

Botanical Printing

Botanical printing is an extremely magical and experimental process where the colour from leaves and flowers is transferred into fabric or paper by steaming. We are expanding the range of plants we are growing for this purpose and look forward to finding out which colours will be produced from nature’s bounty.

“Expert tuition and plenty of examples to aspire to. Just a lovely day!” Said Fiona Macdonald.
